2013 WAI Claimants Legal Responsibilities

The Ministry of Justice, Treaty Claims Legal Aid department granted Ngatiawa Iwi, WAI 1018 legal aid in April 2009.
Apihaka Mack and Marama (Rhonda) Pala signed the documents to request legal aid.  Making Apihaka and Marama responsible legally for the receipt of this money and how it is used.
The liability of receiving this legal aid stays with Apihaka and Marama, NO one else who has whakapapa to our tupuna on the Kapiti Coast.
To-date we have received a six figure sum for our barrister David Stone to manage WAI 1018 he shares this responsibility.
For some reason there is misinformation being touted those who DO NOT sign legal aid forms are liable for those that do... NOT TRUE!  No other human can be responsible for a contract someone else signed with legal aid.
This type of korero creates confusion and divides whanau...
This legal aid money does not get deducted from final Claims Settlement with the Office of Treaty Settlements.
However, if we decided to go into direct negotiations our barrister can quadruple his fees, which he could obtain millions of dollars.
This will be deducted from the final claims cash settlement to the IWI.
Our, story will NOT BE TOLD, this in turn will reduce compensation for the injustices OUR TUPUNA ENDURED AND CONTEMPORARY INJUSTICES the living have endured.
Government can pay out a quick cash fix with no responsibility.  Recipients of this direct negotiations cash settle for a third of what IWI members are entitled to through a Waitangi Tribunal Hearing Process.
Barrister gets rich, negotiations terms reduced, government saves cash - laughing, IWI and Mokopuna no better off in the future!
